Next Conservative Party Leader Betting Markets - Who do the bookies think will be the next Conservative Party Leader?

Six candidates have put their name forward for the Leadership Contest. MP's will start to vote for their choice on the 4th September followed by subsequent votes on the 8th, 9th and 10th September to whittle the six candidates down to four. The remaining four candidates will get the opportunity to speak at the Party Conference (29th September - 2nd October) before the final two candidates are chosen by MP's on the 9th and 10th October. Conservative Party members will then choose the winner and that winner will be announced on 2nd November.

His pre-election odds were as high as 12/1 and they tumbled to 7/2 when he officially threw his name in the hat. Kemi Badenoch was the pre-election 4/1 favourite and her odds halved to 2/1 when she as expected announced her candidature but these odds have now drifted out to a best priced 5/2 at Paddy Power. Tom Tugendhat is another who's odds have more than halved, on offer at 11/1 before the General Election, the best you'll find now is 5/1 at Star Sports. Star Sports also offer the best odds of 15/2 on James Cleverley (was 10/1 pre-election).

Priti Patel's odds have been on a rollercoaster! she was available for as high as 33/1 before the General Election, in to 6/1 just before voting day and now out to a best priced 12/1 at Betfred.

One candidate which has divided the bookies is Mel Stride, not considered a serious contender before now but he's thrown his hat in the ring and is a best priced 33/1 at Betfred.

Those that survived as MP's who have put their names forward all held cabinet posts and will be tainted by their contribution to the decline under the Johnson, Truss and Sunak premierships.

Reform UK are a massive challenge to the Conservatives, in more than 170 of the 251 constituencies lost by the Conservatives at the 2024 General Election, the Reform UK vote was greater than the margin of the Tories' defeat and that is why there are interesting times ahead for both parties, they either need to form an alliance, merge or one of the parties needs to cease to exist if the right and centre right of British politics is to regain power from the Labour Party. That is the challenge for the next Leader of the Conservative Party, whatever they decide they need to unite the party and that in itself will be the biggest hurdle.

It's interesting to see the odds on Robert Jenrick continue to tumble and this will be due to the positive momentum his campaign is taking amongst his fellow Conservative MP's. I'm sure there will be many more twists and turns before the 2nd November announcement but Jenrick has certainly put him self in pole position.
